- The U.S. Department of the Interior intends to award a contract to the Wildlife Conservation Society to coordinate and manage the completion of the following tasks regarding services for biological monitoring in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, Guatemala: 1. Provide preliminary report presenting resuts of the implementation of the Timber Strategy; 2. Provide preliminary report presenting results from the implementation of the Xate Strategy; 3. Provide preliminary report on vertebrates, using transects and counts; 4. Provide preliminary assessment of jaguars in the area of Chisec-Laguna Lachua and develop recommendations for the potential establishment of a reserve; 5. Provide final report on Forest Cover for 2001 and 2002 for the Maya Biosphere Reserve; 6. Synthesize the biological monitoring data from other bioregions with those data from the Maya Biosphere Reserve to address the superior indicator at the strategic objective level. This will require close coordination with other SO 5 partners (TNC, Chemonics, IRG, CONAP, Defeensoores de lla Naturaleza) in the development of their biological monitoring strategies and in the sharing of data. The award will be made without competition (FAR 6.301-1).
