Description
NAICS Code: 541620 The Region 4 Environmental Protection Agency will be issueing a sole source requirement to University of Georgia, Center for Applied Isotopes Studies for the following requirement. The purpose of the proposed work is to systematically map the relative radio isotope composition of sediments at and near the Fort Pierce Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS) and the relative sediment density of the benthos. Tracking of disposed dredged material at the ODMS has been coducted through areal mapping of sediment chemisty utilizing two systems developed by the Center for Applied Isotope Studies: the Gamma Isotope Mapping System and the Continous Sediment Sampling System (CS3). A pre-disposal survey was conducted in June 1994 as a baseline and a post-disposal survey was conducted in November 1996 and January 1997 following completion of the Fort Pierce Harbor Expansion Project in September 1995. A susequent post-disposal survey was conducted in February 1998. All surveys showed that the diposed dredged material persisted within the disposal site. The 1998 survey showed that the areas beyond the locations of disposal had progressed toward pre-disposal conditions, however, the disposal mound itself remained intact. The proposed work will serve as a follow-up survey scheduled to be completed 7 to 8 years following disposal. Data collected in this survey will be compared to the baseline and post-disposal survey data to identify changes in sediment lithology in and immediately surrounding the Fort Pierce ODMDS to determine the long-term persistence of the dredge material. This information will be used to assist in determining the extent and direction for long term migration of dreged material at the Fort Pierce ODMDS. The required tasks are 1. Gamma Spectroscopy, 2. Relative Sediment Density, 3. Box Core Samples for QA/QC, 4. Technical Report The period of performance shall be for approximately 7-8 months after issuance of a purchase order.
