- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on behalf of Federal Motor Carrier Association (FMCSA) intends to issue a modification to an existing purchase order to continue the Outreach Pilot Initiative for the Share the Road Safely, School Children Outreach Pilot Campaign. The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a "share the road" outreach initiative to test the effectiveness of targeting students at various stages of the public education system to influence the behavior of all types of highway users to operate more safely in and around trucks. Last year this pilot was initiated in partnership with The Truck Buddy International organization because they had an established network of drivers paired with various schools throughout the country, and knew of the relationships between the teachers and the drivers. Trucker Buddies continues as the only known National organization that can immediately meet our need. They already have approximately 5,000 partnerships established with school classes and have been successful in improving student knowledge of the truck driving profession. In addition, they already have drivers working with each of these partnerships and can offer us the best drivers available at any location. And finally, Trucker Buddies, and its motor carrier participants, will participate in significant cost sharing, both monetarily and with "in kind" services. Because Trucker Buddies, is currently working on this pilot campaign, have an established network of drivers paired with various schools throughout the country, have approximately 5,000 partnerships established with school classes and have been successful in improving student knowledge of the truck driving profession and will participate in significant cost sharing, both monetarily and with "in kind" services they are the only known source that can successfully complete this pilot campaign. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the threshold is $100,000. The anticipated award date is September 27, 2002.
