- Description
- NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Prodigy Plus Office Modeling System with WaterWorks Soluble Release Material Package. The Prodigy Plus is an advanced technology, 3 dimensional product validation and visualization rapid prototype machine capable of creating models from Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) plastic. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase this item from Stratasys, Inc. of Eden Prairie, MN as the only responsible source and no other supplies will satisfy agency requirements. The Prodigy Plus uses the fused deposition modeling (FDM) process: the only process that models in ABS plastic. ABS plastic is a durable material, which allows for the fabrication of working prototypes. The Prodigy Plus is equipped with WaterWorks, a design tool available only through Stratasys, which allows for the creation of mechanisms whose moving parts are built pre-assembled by the prototype machine. WaterWorks is a unique and patented technology, which has not been licensed to any other manufacturer and no other technology will meet the government's requirement. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 3:00 p.m. local time on 4 September 2002. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer, which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
