- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for the fabrication/manufacture of one (1) Custom Vacuum System. The system will form a part of the vacuum force balance being built at NIST under the Microforce Realization and Measurement Competence Project.*****The vacuum portion of the system (for which this solicitation is being written) comprises a large (approximately 3 ft diameter) custom base plate, collar, and bell jar with an appropriately sized pumping station that is intended to provide a stable, isolated environment in which to perform calibrations of small force measuring instruments. The system is unique in that it must accommodate a variety of optical, electrical, and mechanical feed-throughs, be free-standing, and incorporate its own, clean-room-compatible lift for removing the bell jar to obtain access to the experiment located within.***** The custom vacuum system will need to interface with existing equipment at NIST. Thus, vendors will need to view the laboratory space that is to house the completed system. A Site Visit will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at 1:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time (EST), to allow vendors to examine the laboratory area and required interfacing. Prospective quoters are strongly encouraged to attend the Site Visit. Failure to attend the Site Visit shall in no way constitute grounds for protest and/or claims by vendors. Attendees will first assemble in Building 301, in the room adjacent to the Cafeteria, and will later continue on to Building 225. IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to increased security at NIST, Gaithersburg, vendors planning to attend the Site Visit must e-mail their intention to attend no later than close of business Monday, August 12, 2002, to Tamara Grinspon, at tamara.grinspon@nist.gov, providing name of company, name of each person attending, and country of citizenship. For non-U.S. citizens, the following additional information will be required: Title, Employer/Sponsor, Address, and Subject of Visit (I'll fill in the last one), so that security personnel at the gate may be informed. Vendors should come to the Visitor Registration Center at the NIST main gate (Gate A, off Bureau Drive) to pick up their Visitor's Badge. Photo Identification will be requested at the NIST entrance gate. No one will be permitted to enter the NIST campus without prior registration.*****Delivery is required within fourteen (14) weeks or less after receipt of order (ARO).*****The Government intends to award one purchase order to the vendor whose quotation will provide the BEST VALUE to the Government, price and other factors included.*****A Request for Quotation (RFQ) document, along with Specifications/Drawings, is expected to be posted to Federal Business Opportunities (www.fedbizops.gov ) by August 12, 2002, although this date is subject to change. Interested vendors should submit a quotation package in accordance with instructions provided in the solicitation document.
