Description
The USDA Forest Service is developing conservation assessments for several forest carnivore species in cooperation with other Federal agencies, State agencies, tribal governments, universities, and research scientists. The assessments will gather and synthesize the best available information concerning habitat relationships, population status and trends, historical and current distributions, and key risk factors likely affecting species distribution and persistence. Information from the conservation assessments will be used to assess the effectiveness of the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment Decision to provide ecological conditions necessary to maintain viable populations of these species well distributed across their ranges in the Sierra Nevada. The assessments are scheduled for completion by December 31, 2002. To achieve the objectives for the assessments within this deadline, the Forest Service is requesting assistance from experts in the field of mammology (specializing in forest carnivores) to develop the conservation assessments. The Forest Service is particularly seeking expertise from those who have conducted research on the fisher (Martes pennanti), marten (Martes americana), or Sierra Nevada red fox (Vulpes vulpes necator). Key work tasks include: (1) compiling, reviewing, and synthesizing literature and research in progress; (2) compiling and analyzing data; and (3) using this information to write sections on ecology, status, risk factors, management considerations, and other pertinent issues for each species. The NAICS code is 924120. this is a full and open competition. This is an electronic solicitation only. All documents will be posted on fedbizopps.gov for download from this web site exclusively. Solicitation is expected to be issued on/or about July 26, 2002.
