- Description
- The Bureau of Land Management proposes to noncompetitively award a contract to Boies Hall/Renegade Exploration to provide geological work related to the Nicore Project near Cave Junction, Oregon. The Nicore Project involves a Court-ordered validity examination of 151 placer mining claims covering 4,380 acres in mountainous terrain. The claim group extends 3.5 miles in a north-south direction and 3.5 miles in an east-west direction with claims falling in 15 different sections. The claims are allegedly valuable for such minerals as nickel, copper, cobalt, chrome, and iron; they are found in a laterite surface deposit caused by the weathering of the parent rock which enriched the metallic content near the surface. The deposit has been extensively mapped, sampled, and evaluated by Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company beginning about 1972 and ending about 1984. The work will consist of data acquisition, data review, geological field work, sampling, and report writing. Boies Hall/Renegade Exploration has been selected to provide this work because Boies Hall served as District Geologist and Project Manager over all aspects of geologic mapping, sample site selection, trenching, sampling, and resource characterization during the 12-year period that Inspiration explored the Nicore claims. He is the only contractor known to possess the ability to verify, reconstruct, and write up technical data that he had personally generated while working for Inspiration. Any other contractor will need to conduct extensive geologic mapping, excavate hundreds of trackhoe trenches, collect thousands of samples, assay the samples, and analyze the resources on the 151 mining claim group. Firms who believe they can provide the geological work required should submit their qualifications in writing to the Contracting Officer. See Numbered Note(s): 1.
