Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST), Information Technology Laboratory, Division 893, 100 Bureau Drive MS 8930, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-8930 Description: Smart cards provide a number of security services, including identification and authentication of the card holder. However, a lack of interoperability standards and systems oriented architectural models has hampered adoption of smart card technology within the United States. The National Institute of Standards and Technology has been working with industry and other federal agencies under the auspices of the Government Smart Card(GSC) program to establish an interoperability framework for smart card based systems. As part of the effort to promote smart card interoperability, NIST wishes to initiate collaborations with industry to explore and develop object oriented smart card interoperability models within the context of the GSC interoperability framework. The goal of this collaboration is to produce consistent, standardized models and toolkits for GSC smart card integrators.
