- Description
- I. Background: The Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) is a Federal agency with headquarters in Chicago. The RRB also has district and regional offices at 53 locations throughout the United States. The RRB headquarters data center operations are located at 844 North Rush Street, Chicago, Illinois. The current environment is provided in Attachment 1. II: Requirement: The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board is considering conversion of its IDMS/MVS-based systems to a relational database management system. The recommendation is to convert from Computer Associates' (CA) IDMS/DB/DC 14.7 (soon to be updated to 15.x) database management system to IBM's CICS version 4.x and DB2/UDB v6.0* for OS/390 processing environment, or Microsoft?s SQL Server 2000. The objective of this RFI is to determine the availability of consulting services to study and to provide design assistance toward the conversion of the agency?s CA-IDMS databases and systems to an alternative, i.e., IBM/DB2 and/or MS/SQL. Companies having the ability to provide the listed services are requested to provide detailed information about the tasks and skills they can provide to perform the tasks listed below: The notification should be sent to the processing office in this notice within 15 calendar days from the date of this synopsis. The anticipated conversion tasks are hereby listed: A. Develop a project plan describing all tasks and resource requirements, associated costs, and timescales required to accomplish the recommended migration strategy. B. Feasibility Study - Develop a feasibility study that would describe the applications to be migrated and recommend an appropriate migration plan, including available development tools and services. See the Attachment 2 for information on background, current applications, and sizing metrics. C. Design Assistance - 1. System environment. Describe available assistance for RRB staff (in terms of recommended skill levels, hours necessary, and steps to be performed) in designing the target environment to support not only the application functionality, but also those aspects of the original environment that need to be replicated to provide a full end-to-end solution (e.g. printing, scheduling, security, program development structures, test environments, file management, housekeeping, etc.). 2. Data Warehouse. Describe available assistance for RRB staff (in terms of recommended skill levels, hours necessary, and steps to be performed) to design a relational database to support our data warehouse requirements, based on the data in our legacy databases. Requests may be submitted to the address identified above or faxed to 312/751-4923. E-mail responses to this request shall not be accepted.
