- Description
- Under authority of U.S.C. 253(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1 the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland intends to negotiate a contract with Carl Zeiss, Inc. One Zeiss Dr., Thornwood, NY 10594 to provide a Laser Microbeam Pressure Catapult Micromanipulation System. The intended procurement will be classified under NAICS 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, with a size standard of 500 Employees. The Laser Microbeam Pressure Catapult Micromanipulation System (LCM) shall include the following: (1) Shall include a pulsed nitrogen UV-a cutting Laser at 337nm wavelength. (2) Shall include a fast stepper motor, precise substage control. (3) Shall include a laser catapulting mechanism that does not rely on gravity-based collection. (4) Laser shall be coupled via fluorescence illumination path of the microscope and focused through the objective. (5) Shall have the capability of automatic robotic cutting and catapulting, with manual control available if needed. (6) Shall have a wide range of cut sizes ranging from 0.5um to several mm. (7) Shall have the capability to do subcellular ablation. (8) Shall have software capable of supporting real time visualization of the laser position and automated sample processing. (9) Shall have the ability to micro-dissect single cells. (10) Shall have the ability to micro-dissect living cells. (11) Shall have the capability to still do micro-dissection even during less than ideal slide conditions such as; humidity, moisture, and static electricity. (12) Shall include a PALM robo stage, motorized. (13) Shall include a manipulator with 3 axes, including motorized cup holder. (14) Shall include a Axiovert 200 inverted research microscope. (15) Shall include a Long Distance Achroplan 40x/0.6, where transmission at 337nm is 43%. (16) Shall include a 3-chip CCD color video camera. (17) Shall include a video adapter 1/3 inch (18) Shall include a PALM starter kit. (19) Shall include the following patented features (Patent Number 5,998,129 issued December 7, 1999): (a) Laser Pressure Catapulting (LPC) Technology; ?the force of light?, to remove selected areas of tissue or cells off of the slide or dish. ?The force of the light? lifts the selected area against gravity straight into the cap of the microfuge tube. By going against gravity only the area of interest is collected preventing any unwanted tissue from contamination. This worldwide patented technology allows complete control of cell(s) removal providing 99% capture efficiency while preserving the quality of the RNA and DNA. (b) The cutting or ablation (no heat) is precise with a cutting diameter as small as <0.5 microns using the 100x objective and 1 micron using the 40x objective. This provides precise micro-dissection avoiding any contamination. (c) Ability to automatically micro-dissect multiply areas with a single button. The areas can be color coded for separation of different types of cells. Totals of the areas collected are tallied automatically to determine the number of cells collected. (d) Ability to micro-dissect tissue mounted on a glass slide without a membrane on it. Avoids further contamination from the polymer film. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP). Concerns that respond to this synopsis shall furnish concise responses directed specifically to the requirements mentioned above and are invited to submit capability statements in an original plus two (2) copies no later than fifteen(15) calendar days from the date of this announcement. Sources demonstrating the capability to accomplish the above shall supply pertinent information in sufficient detail to demonstrate their ability to perform. Submission of Capability Statements: (a) When mailing your capabilities through the U.S. Postal Service use the following address: National Institutes of Health, Office of Logistics and Acquisition Operations, OA, 6011 Executive Blvd., Room 529Q, MSC 7663, ATTN: Sheri Custer, Bethesda, MD 20892. (b) When hand delivering, or using a courier service such as: UPS, Federal Express, etc., use the following City, State, and Zip Code: Rockville, MD 20852. Responses by Facsimile (FAX) will not be accepted. NOTE: 22, Not withstanding the forty-five (45) days, notice of receipt of capability statements must be received within fifteen (15) days from publication in the FedBizOpps.
