Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Statistics will conduct a pilot study to evaluate the feasibility of using activity monitors/accelerometers in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES),a continuous survey to assess the health and nutritional status in the U.S. population. The activity monitors (AM) will be used by children to measure locomotion, including steps traveled over a 7-day period. The monitors must be safe and durable. The device must have a secure housing and there must be no external removable or movable parts. The device must be small in size in the range not larger than 2 inches in length and width and 1 inch in thickness. It must be at least 1.5 inches in length and width and 0.5 inches in thickness. It cannot weigh more than 1 ounce. It must be able to measure and record time varying accelerations ranging in magnitude from 0.05 to 2 G's and have a step counter. It must be capable of being calibrated in a field location. The device must have been used in previous studies on monitoring phyiscal activity and the results reported in peer-reviewed journals. Requests for quotations will be available on or about June 13, 2002. Simplified Acquisition Procedures requiring written quotations will be utilized. This procurement is a 100% small business set-aside.
