Description
This is a request for information (RFI). The USAF Force Protection (FP)Battlelab plans to conduct a concept demonstration of commercial/government off-the-shelf equipment that could be used to provide tactical overhead imagery to deployed forces. Given the current world situation, short notice contingency operations have become commonplace for US forces. These forces often operate in areas where current imagery may not be accessible or available in a timely manner. A simple, easy to use, portable device that could be launched locally and provide immediate overhead imagery to decision makers directing forces in the area would prove extremely valuable. The equipment should require minimal training, have the capability to be locally launched, and operate in all weather conditions. It should operate emitting low or no noise and be difficult to visually detect. It should be of minimum size and weight, man portable, and operate at a wide range of altitudes (100-meter minimum). The equipment should have the capability to capture digital, high-resolution imagery, which can be immediately transmitted to a ground computer. Finally, the equipment should be cost effectively disposable, not reusable, and not retain the digital image information. Through this BAA, the Air Force is soliciting information concerning mature technologies, which meet the requirements previously stated, to be used in a FP Battlelab concept demonstration. The primary selection criteria for all submissions will be the most practical system available to support the requirements. All offeror's are strongly encouraged to submit information supporting this request. Submission Information: Submissions will be accepted until COB EST, May 17, 2002. Please submit to Mr. Bob Bal of Concurrent Technologies Corporation via email at balr@ctc.com <mailto:balr@ctc.com> or mail to 100 CTC Drive, Johnstown, PA 15904-1935. Electronic submittals are strongly encouraged. THE SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT CONCERNING THIS RFI IS MR. BOB BAL. You may contact Mr. Bal with any questions you may have at (814) 269-6434. General Information Concerning This RFI: This notice itself constitutes the BAA as per FAR 6.102(d) (2). There shall be no formal RFP. The Air Force reserves the right to select for award, any, part of, all, or none of the submittals received. The Air Force may or may not purchase any of the systems submitted. This BAA is an expression of interest only and does not commit the Air Force to pay any prototype costs related to this announcement. Offeror's are advised that only the Air Force FP Battlelab is legally authorized to commit the Government to the obligation of funds.
