Description
NA This is Amendment 0004 to the previous Combined Synopsis/Solicitation (CSS) Number DATM07-02-R-0007 for Commercial Items posted on 19-March-2002. The purpose of the amendment is to answer the following Technical Questions. Q-1. There are many different types of dust covers, do you want the dust cover for the connector end only (to cover the ferrule, the cap) or a box cover, explain? A-1. The self-closing dust cover is of a type that attaches to the end of the receptacle once the receptacle is inserted into the fiber termination box and is held in place with a lock washer. The self-closing dust cover has a spring mechanism that will hold the cover and seal tightly against the receptacle when not in use, preventing dust and dirt to enter into the receptacle. The cover rests against the plug-to-plug assembly (due to the tension provided by the spring mechanism. Q-2. Pigtail, in the fiber optic world usually means a piece of cable connectorized on one end only. The end without the connectors gets spliced to another piece of cable, is this then a true pigtail? A-2. No, it is not a ?true pigtail?. One end has sc/upc single mode connectors (simplex) and the other end has a tactical type connector (refer to Cannon Part #F0111400-4033). Q-3. Is the shutter latch on the connector or the SC coupling? There is a commercial version of this type of product available from a company called Molex. When the male SC connector is removed from the coupling a latch with a spring automatically close s keeping dust out. A-3. The self-closing dust cover is on the tactical type connector (refer to Cannon Part #F0111400-4033). Q-4. SC connectors in the commercial market are single or duplex units. Are we talking about the same thing here or is there a custom made SC multifiber connector? A-4. The tactical type connector has 12 fibers (25? long) coming from it, which terminate in simplex sc/upc single mode connectors. The amendment also adds the following FAR Clause to 52.212-5-Contract Terms and Conditions Required to Implement Statutes or Executive Orders-Commercial Items: 52.223-9-Estimate of Percentage of Recovered Material Content for EPA-Designated Products (Aug 00). This will be the final amendment for this solicitation.
