Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), intends to negotiate solely with BioRad Life Science Group in Hercules, CA, to furnish and deliver (F.O.B Origin) four (4) iCycler Gradient Thermal Cycler systems, components, and related consumables to the USDA, ARS, Plant Genetics Research Unit (PGRU), in Geneva, NY. These systems will be used to evaluate apple rootstocks that provide tree-size control, resistance to biotic stresses, and confer precociousness to scion varieties. The application of DNA marker systems to rootstocks requires the optimization of individual markers (SSR, SNP, SCA) through an annealing temperature gradient protocol. Each BioRad iCycler Thermal Cycler system includes the following SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS: one, 96-well (0.2 ml.) sample block; one, 60-well (0.5 ml.) sample block; one, 384-well sample block; display quarter VGA screen; licensed for PCR; operating temperature range 5-32 degrees Celsius ambient; operating humidity range 20-80%; serial and parallel ports for communications; electrical approval IEC, CE. OPERATING SPECIFICATIONS: Peltier and Joule method with a heating rate 3.3 degrees Celsius/second and cooling rate 2 degrees Celsius/second; three temperature monitoring modes: block, in-sample probe, and algorithm; TEMPERATURE SPECIFICATIONS: Range 4-100 degrees Celsius, Accuracy +/-0.3 degrees Celsius; Uniformity +/-0.4 degrees Celsius; Overshoot maximum <0.5 degrees Celsius, Heated lid Up to 105 degrees Celsius; GRADIENT SPECIFICATIONS: Range 40-99 degrees Celsius; Programmable gradient range 1-25 degrees Celsius; Accuracy +/-0.4 degrees Celsius; Uniformity +/-0.4 degrees Celsius. PROGRAMMING SPECIFICATIONS: 225 onboard programs; maximum of 9 cycles per protocol; maximum of 9 cycles per segment; 0-99 repeats per cycle; 00:01 - 99:59 minute(s) segment time range; battery back=up; onboard software which is menu-driven, real-time graphical display of thermal protocol, intuitive programming, automatic validation reporting, customizable auditory signals; and key programming features which include cycle sequencing, touchdown, RT-PCR, nested PCR, and long PCR. Each system includes the system software with upgrades, a two year parts and labor warranty, one copy of the software, operations, and maintenance manuals. The equipment must be capable of upgrading the firmware and adding an optical unit that performs Real-time PCR. Any amendment and documents related to this procurement will be available electronically at the Internet site: http://www.eps.gov. Potential offerors will be responsible for downloading their own copy of these documents (if any). It is the offerors responsibility to monitor the site for release of the solicitation and any related documents. Companies with the demonstrated capability and financial capacity to provide and service such equipment must submit a written substantive statement outlining the Company's and systems' capabilities to the Contracting Officer within 5 days of publication of this notice. This is not a request for proposal. No solicitation is available.
