Description
The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) is committed to meeting the Nation's needs for current base geographic data and maps. Working with partners, the USGS plans to provide the Nation with access to current, accurate, and nationally consistent digital data and topographic maps derived from those data. This synthesis of information, products, and capabilities, The National Map, will be a seamless, continuously maintained set of geographic base information that will serve as a foundation for integrating, sharing, and using other data easily and consistently. The USGS is looking for public and private sector partners to share in the development of methodologies and software technology that will be needed to view the terabytes of data that will comprise The National Map <http://nationalmap.usgs.gov/>. The USGS has an interest in working with Federal agencies, state and local governments, non-profit organizations, commercial companies, and academia to explore visualization software and supporting database structures and data streaming techniques to display The National Map. The intent is to use creative partnership mechanisms and cost shared approaches such as Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA), Innovative Partnerships (IP), Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA), and others to develop a network of partners who can provide assistance in this undertaking. If you have an interest in discussing the opportunities for partnerships with the USGS for the visualization of The National Map, please contact mgwilliams@usgs.gov. Interested parties also may contact Michael Williams, U.S. Geological Survey, 511 National Center, 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, Virginia 20192, Phone: 703-648-5574.
