Description
ISSUE DATE: 04/02/02. Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, supervision and disposal necessary to Scrape and Paint Engineering Bay at USCG Station New London, New London, CT (New London County). The work includes scraping and repainting of approximately 7200 sq. ft. surface area of vaulted ceiling supported by truss framing and incidental related work. The ceiling is tongue-in-groove wooden decking. Approximately ? of ceiling has been previously scraped and painted and is easily accessible by ladder. Approximately ? of ceiling is above a suspended ceiling; paint is badly flaked and curled with paint chips littering the topside of the suspended ceiling. At the end of this project, the ceiling tiles shall be removed, brushed free of paint chips and reinstalled. Any damaged ceiling tiles and/or suspension grid work shall be replaced in-kind. A typical paint chip sample was taken from this area and lab tested revealing 0.10% led content. However, the building was built prior to 1978 and it cannot be assumed that no lead based paint is present. The paint to be removed shall be treated as lead-containing paint with requisite personnel protection and waste disposal provisions until proven otherwise. The successful contractor shall be a Connecticut licensed lead abatement contractor. Estimated cost of this project is between $25,000 and $100,000.
