Description
The University of California, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking additional qualified sources for the fabrication of Target Bay Mirror Frames for its National Ignition Facility, being constructed in Livermore California. The Mirror Frames are aluminum weldments that require precision machining (similar to aerospace tooling), precision location and assembly of mounting, and alignment hardware and pressure testing to 0.5 PSI. There will be up to 31 additional Target Bay Mirror Frames fabricated between April and December 2002 with the last unit scheduled to arrive at the University no later than December 1, 2002. There are approximately 16 different configurations, the smallest of which is 4 feet x 8 feet x 15 feet with the largest consisting of three sections, each similar in size to the smallest. Interested firms should respond with a description of qualifications with respect to the foregoing or related fields. The University intends to set aside to a small business(s) any procurements that might be solicited as a result of this announcement. The Small Business size standard applicable to the proposed acquisition is 500 or fewer employees. Firms qualifying as a Small Business with respect to this standard should so state. Responses are requested by Friday, March 15, 2002. Prospective sources should have personnel experienced in the welding and machining techniques necessary. To be successful, the fabricator must have all the necessary in-house manufacturing and inspection equipment, as well as have significant recent experience in similar work. Firms responding to this announcement which fail to provide the required information will not be considered for inclusion into any resulting source list. Facsimile and telephone responses will not be accepted. This notice is to assist the University in determining the potential for competition; no solicitation is currently available.
