Description
The CADTS project is a broad-based effort that spans the use of basic R&D concepts through commercial products. The 20 problem/needs areas listed below represent critical requirements. Stricom is seeking solutions from industry and private sector R&D contractors for off-the-shelf products, modification projects involving existing products and technology/hardware development projects. 1. Low cost, fast response time photomultipliers and photodiodes. These systems should preferably have a flat response in the 0.5 - 1.8 micron range. 2. Ultra high speed gas chromatography detectors. High reliability and accuracy are important characteristics. 3. Fast response techniques that can determine size characteristics of aerosols and particulates in air at ultra low concentrations. 4. Fast response techniques that can characterize the diffusion properties of mixtures of aerosols and particulates in various gases at a wide range of concentrations. 5. Compact, rugged FTIR that can be transported long distances over rough terrain and require no re-alignment of the optical system. 6. Compact, rugged, automated PCR system that can be transported long distances over rough terrain. 7. Rugged aerosol sampler for pathogens that will result in increased viability, especially for vegetative bacteria. 8. High efficiency surface sampling device for pathogens. 9. Rapidly responding, inexpensive devices for continuous air monitoring (safety air monitoring). These devices should require only periodic calibration or calibration checks and have moderately high accuracies. 10. Devices capable of characterizing a gaseous environment consisting of a mixtures of several components. 11. Small, portable and rugged gas chromatography instruments with ultra fast response time and low detection limits. 12. Portable system for generation of aerosol and particulate clouds to sub-ppm resolution, and size of 0.1 - 100 micron. 13. Portable system for characterization of aerosol and particulate clouds to sub-ppm concentration, at a size of 0.1 - 100 micron. 14. Fast IR instruments with ultra low detection limits. 15. Instruments capable of performing routine characterization (identification and amount) of surface contaminants (liquid, solid). 16. Instrument and technique for continuously monitoring chemically contaminated aerosols in real-time/near real-time. Data must be reported continually. 17. Instrument to continuously monitor low-moderate (subPPM to PPT range) vapor concentrations of one or more chemicals with fast measurement cycling (sub-minute). This technique must be capable of discriminating between different chemical vapors. 18.Portable instrument for measurement of triboelectric charges on the surface of particulates when dispersed in a cloud. 19.Brillouin scattering technique for characterizing the diffusion characteristics of particles in a cloud. 20.Portable high speed digital video system for filming diffusion in clouds of particulates and aerosols.
