Description
The AOC and the Defense Intelligence Agency, Missile & Space Intelligence Center, will co-sponsor a conference titled "The China Story, SAMs and SRBMs" on 13-14 March 2002. The conference will be held at the Redstone Arsenal, Alabama and will be classified SECRET, U.S. Only. The objective of the conference will be to provide an understanding of Chinese programs for the development of ground-based missile systems. The conference will focus on air defense systems, short-range ballistic missiles and anti-tank guided missiles by providing discussions of the technical characteristics and performance of currently deployed and developmental systems as well as information on China's missile development, employment and proliferation activities. Overviews of the broad spectrum of missiles produced by China will be provided along with detailed discussions on selected high interest systems and activities. The conference chairman will be Mr. R. Douglas Street, Chief, Defensive Systems Office, DIA/MSIC. The keynote address will be given by MG John Landry, USA (Ret), National Intelligence Officer for Conventional Military Forces, Office of the Director of Central Intelligence. There will be two sessions. Session One will be chaired by Doug Street and will cover surface-to-air missiles. Topics include, SAM development, activity and history (MSIC); Discussions of high interest RF SAMs (MSIC); EO/IR SAMs (MSIC); SAM test and training activity (MSIC); Proliferation MSIC); Integrated air defense (NAIC); Counterstealth (CIA); Directed energy weapons (MSIC); Ability to counter a U.S.-style attack (MSIC). Session Two, chaired by Ms. Pam McCue, DIA/MSIC, will cover short-range ballistic missiles. All presentations will be by MSIC. Topics include development, activity and history; technology; proliferation; detailed system discussions; system operations; signatures, future systems, C4; and ATGMs. Finally, there will be an equipment display where conference attendees will have the opportunity to view a wide variety of foreign missile systems and associated equipment.
