- NA This is a Request for Infomation (RFI): Purpose: As part of its assessment, the Command, Control, Communications, and Computer (C4) Systems Directorate (J6) seeks to find possible XML applications to interpoperability among command and control (C2) natio nal security systems. Background: The Joint Staff?s Command, Control, Communications, and Computer (C4) Systems Directorate (J6) wishes to exploit the maximum potential offered by the Extensible Markup Language to enhance the interoperability of command and control (C2) national security systems. Respondents are invited to propose strategies, products and services to achieve C2 systems interoperability through the use of XML. In addition, respondents are invited to comment on the effect of the governmen t specifying the use of XML as a general-purpose exchange mechanism for non-near-real time information exchange. Responses that contain proprietary information should be clearly marked to ensure correct handling. The information provided will be used to f ormulate proposed strategies and the government will not respond individually to the submissions except to request additional information if appropriate. Comments are to be submitted electronically via e-mail (MS Word or earlier) to charles.schaffer@js.pentagon.mil. Written responses may be provided to the address above. The Government reserves the right to request clarification or additional information. No written or verbal responses will be provided to industry under this request. No contract will result from responses received for this RFI. However, the JCS/J6 may issue a formal Request for Proposal (RFP), or other appropriate legal instrument, at s ome future time in order to implement specific XML solutions.
