- Description
- The Missile Defense Agency (formerly the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization) will be conducting a Laser Radar Workshop on February 26 ? 27, 2002, in Rosslyn, VA. The purpose of this workshop is to familiarize the MDA with laser radar technology that may support missile defense missions. This workshop will focus on laser radar technology for ballistic missile defense only; high-energy laser weapons, cruise missile defense, air defense, or ship defense will not be topics of this workshop. Workshop participants will be invited to present 30-minute briefings on laser radar technology, which should include the following: 1. For which MDA applications do you recommend your laser radar technologies? 2. What is the current status of your laser radar technology for MDA applications? 3. What is achievable during the next 10 years? 4. What are the most important technology issues of laser radar systems for missile defense applications? 5. How can the laser community help MDA resolve operational and technical issues? In order to minimize the possibility of proprietary information being disclosed to competitors, the audience will consist of Government personnel and their designated systems engineering and technical assessment support contractors. Conference presenters may only be present during their presentation. Presentations at the conference will be by invitation only. All parties interested in presenting their laser radar technology at this workshop must submit a one page summary discussing their laser radar technology, its applicability to ballistic missile defense, and their experience in laser radar technology development. Summaries (electronic or written) must be received by Dr. Walt Dyer, (703) 697-3697, e-mail walter.dyer@bmdo.osd.mil, no later than 4:00 pm 01 February 2002. MDA will select the workshop participants based upon the relevance of the laser radar technology to ballistic missile defense and demonstrated experience in laser radar technology development, as evidenced in their summary. The workshop is for the purpose of information exchange only.
