The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for glass and polypropylene bottles and closures (caps) for delivery to the USGS. The bottles will be used as shipping containers for water samples for analysis. The glass bottles shall be made of Type III (Soda-lime) glass with amber dyes to limit light penetration to the sample contents. The 2 ounce bottle requiring the polyseal cap and one of the 8 ounce bottle types shall be made of Type III (soda-lime) glass with a flint (clear) color. The bottles shall be industry known shapes "Boston Round" and "Straight Sides." The polypropylene bottle (jar) shall be of the "Straight Side" style, a natural color and a 89-400 neck finish. The wall thickness shall be approximately .060 inches. The polypropylene bottle (jar) shall have the standard Society Plastics Industry (SPI) 400 thread finish and able to withstand a torque application of 36-53 inch pounds. The sizes are 2 ounce, 4 ounce, 8 ounce, 16 ounce, and 32 ounce. The flint 2 ounce bottles shall have polyseal closures and all other sizes shall have melamine closures. The closures (caps) shall be made of melamine resin with a co-extruded polyethylene/.005 FEP teflon liner. The exception shall be the 2 ounce clear glass bottle that shall have a black phenolic 20mm polyseal cap. The performance period is a base year andfour 1-year option periods. This will be a requirements type contract. Commercial item procedures in accordance with FAR Part 12 are being used for this acquisition. The total estimated quantities for the base and four option periods are 150,000 of the 4 ounce glass amber colored bottles; 60,000 of the 8 ounce glass flint colored bottles; 60,000 of the 8 ounce glass amber colored bottles; 30,000 of the 16 ounce glass amber colored bottles; 126,000 of the 32 ounce glass amber colored bottles; 18,000 of the 2 ounce glass flint colored bottles; 12,000 of the 2 ounce glass amber colored bottles; 21,000 of the 16 ounce polypropylene natural colored bottles; 5,000 of the 22mm polyseal caps; 33,000 of the 28mm polyseal caps; 7,500 of the 33mm polyseal caps; 21,500 of the 89mm melamine caps; 5,000 of the 33mm melamine caps, 5,000 of the 24mm melamine caps; 5,000 of the 22mm melamine caps; and 5,000 of the 20mm melamine caps. Solicitation No. 02ERSS0002 will be made available on/about January 8, 2002. All responsible small business sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency.
