Description
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Department of Defense Medical School and Health Sciences University, intends to procure on a non personal services basis, an instructor and consultant for its Graduate School of Nursing. It intends to contract for these services on a sole source basis. The contractor shall act as an instructor for the Pathophysiology course and as an assistant instructor for the Anatomy and Cell Biology, Neuroscience 1, and Neuroscience 2. The instructor shall work on a full time basis from January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002. The contractor will be required to complete specific instructional and administrative tasks throughout the academic year. Estimated number of hours is 1,250. The contractor performing the instruction shall possess an M.D. degree and have practical experience in instructing medical or graduate level students in Anatomy and Cell Biology, Neuroscience 1 and 2, Pathophysiology, and Health Assessment. The contractor must have a history of assisting and delivering courses and integrating basic sciences information as it relates to the clinical setting. The contractor must have demonstrated expertise and the ability to contribute to department and faculty programs. The contractor shall have the following responsibilities: PATHOPHYSIOLOGY (Spring Semester), primary duty: Course lecturer (80 hours): Participate in preplanning meeting, set the agenda for the course, organize lecture schedule, review course objectives. Attend classes (4 hours x 16 classes equals 64 hours). Contract with speakers (60 hours). Provide a minimum of three (3) lectures with handouts (270 hours). Assist in proctoring, writing, grading and reviewing three (3) examinations of 150 questions (150 hours). Provide student counseling and remediation services (16 hours). Create folder for file of all class handouts, examinations, professor contact sheets, course syllabi, objectives, etc. (10 hours). Participate in debriefing at end of semester (10 hours). ANATOMY (Summer Semester): Primary Duty: Course lecturer. Participate in preplanning meetings (20 hours). Provide a minimum of 10 one hour lectures with handouts (100 hours). Assist with teaching anatomy lab (40 hours). Assist in proctoring, writing, grading, and reviewing examinations (50 hours). Provide student counseling and remediation services (15 hours). Assist course director as needed (40 hours). NEUROSCIENCE 1 (Summer Semester): Primary Duty: Course lecturer. Participate in preplanning meeting (20 hours). Provide a minimum of four (4) lectures (4 x 10 hours equals 40 hours). Assist in proctoring, writing, grading, and reviewing examinations (50 hours). Provide student counseling and remediation services (15 hours). Assist course director as needed (40 hours). HEALTH ASSESSMENT (Summer Semester): Assist course director as needed (15 hours). NEUROSCIENCE 2: Primary duty: Course lecturer. Participate in preplanning meetings (20 hours). Provide a minimum of two (2) lectures (20 hours). Assist in proctoring, writing, grading, and reviewing examinations (50 hours). Provide student counseling and remediation services (15 hours). Assist course director as needed (40 hours). The government will provide the lecture and teaching laboratory needed to support the delivery of the course of instruction. Travel and per diem are not included in the contract price. The contractor may invoice for services rendered every two weeks. Payment will be made in accordance with the prompt payment act. Contractor personnel will not work for any other government employer at any time during the conduct of this course. Contractor will coordinate teaching instruction with the department chair.
